2022
As I hear fireworks ringing in new year
I pray my tears will drown out sounds
of laughter and cheer
for it is too difficult to think
about what this year could have been
How happy we would be
As my happiness is turned to sorrow
my joy turned to gloom
I look unto heaven
longing for You to make all things new
this world cannot offer us what our souls crave
To be made whole, perfect in the Savior’s embrace
I take heart in the fact that it is better
to be in the house of mourning
than the house of laughter
So I pray
for my tears to be loud
and to drown out the songs of new year
this year may be a solemn one
Yet, it will be one where the Savior is near
